From the Reporter
The Story
A raid of the Mingei International Museum thrust the low-key institution into the limelight, but the case has seemingly lingered after the death in custody of the only person who’d been criminally charged.
What’s Happening Now
Federal officials say the investigation is ongoing. Though the museum says it hasn’t heard anything and has only been contacted by investigators once in the three and a half years since the raid.
What I Found Most Interesting
Instead of seizing and carting out bags and boxes of 67 items the federal agents suspected of being potentially looted, they ordered the museum to lock up the items in their own storage.
