From the Reporter
The Story
The financing of a new downtown Chargers stadium has been held up by two hurdles that were recently resolved: NFL labor strife and the future of government-sponsored redevelopment.
What Was Most Interesting
Those hurdles left their mark. It doesn’t appear the financing picture is any clearerthan it was when Mayor Jerry Sanders and the Chargers began talking about a downtown facility almost two years ago.
What’s Next
The current plan makes a domed stadium the centerpiece of a sports and entertainment district. That plan is competing against a standalone Convention Center expansion and a down economy.
