voiceofsandiego.org is partnering with the Henrietta Lacks Project, which will host a months-long series of events examining research ethics and diversity issues through Rebecca Skloot’s The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The book chronicles the true story of how cervical cancer cells taken from Henrietta Lacks were used without her permission to produce a human cell line for research purposes.
The Lacks Project has been organized by a science and education alliance that includes San Diego State University, the University of San Diego, California State University San Marcos, Point Loma Nazarene University, Grossmont College, University of California San Diego, the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, and the Center for Ethics in Science and Technology.
