Andrew Donohue talked with District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, who is running for San Diego mayor. They discussed the obstacles of bureaucracy, pensions, the schools’ financial problems and more. Here’s Dumanis when they discussed school board member Scott Barnett’s plan, which includes a potential parcel tax increase:
Well, they tried that last year and it failed, miserably. … I don’t think right now in any phase of government that people in our communities trust that government. Sacramento, what a mess. They don’t trust Sacramento. You know, the federal branch right now, everybody there is just bickering with one another. They don’t trust people there. And locally, because of the mistakes of the past, they don’t trust people. So people have to start talking about the truth in a civil and respectful way and come to some solutions. And we need to go to business and philanthropists as well to, you know, get into part of the discussion.
Plus, find out why Dumanis named Starbucks the Hero of the Week. (There wasn’t time to name a Goat of the Week.)
