I agree completely with Richard Gleaves. Any project of this kind needs to be better situated. Artist models can really skew our expected vision of the finished piece. The big gray boat is a huge visual competitor and has no comfortable relationship to the ‘Wings.’

I think we could have a very fine piece of sculpture on the bay at some point, but this is not the location, nor is it the time.

Build something iconic, but take some time to really think it through, then have a national competition. Ask San Diegans to tell you what theme they would like to see…. eventually. We will all think of something different, but there will be commonality in there somewhere. It is a messy process, but worth it in my opinion. There will be some wonderful ideas lurking in the pile of suggestions.

Whatever happens needs time and thought. Businessmen and women want it now…that is not the way really good artwork is created. This current suggestion is interesting, but not The One.
