Mayoral candidate Bonnie Dumanis released an eight-point plan to reform San Diego schools.
Here are the elements: |
1. Back a ballot measure in 2014 that would add four mayoral appointments to the school board. |
2. Establish an independent financial oversight board. |
3. Add parents of students to the district’s contract negotiating team. |
4. Renegotiate existing labor contracts. |
5. No new taxes. |
6. Create a task force to advocate for reforms to state education funding. |
7. Work with job training programs to place more high school students in summer jobs. |
8. Create a new city department to act as a liaison between the Mayor’s Office and the school district. |
