From the Reporter
Mayoral candidate Bonnie Dumanis released an eight-point plan to reform San Diego schools.

Here are the elements:

1. Back a ballot measure in 2014 that would add four mayoral appointments to the school board.
2. Establish an independent financial oversight board.
3. Add parents of students to the district’s contract negotiating team.
4. Renegotiate existing labor contracts.
5. No new taxes.
6. Create a task force to advocate for reforms to state education funding.
7. Work with job training programs to place more high school students in summer jobs.
8. Create a new city department to act as a liaison between the Mayor’s Office and the school district.
