I plan to spend three days this week visiting local schools to talk to teachers, students and administrators about San Diego Unified’s layoff crisis.

The plan is to get on the ground and meet with the people who are really being affected by the layoffs, which are hitting one in every five teachers in city schools.

This is a similar approach to the one we used to cover the City Council district elections earlier this year. I’m going to be based at local schools and plan to tell a few anecdotes from my reporting to show a personal perspective of an issue I have so far only covered from 10,000 feet.

Look for posts this week from Scripps Ranch High School, Central Elementary and Fay Elementary in City Heights.
