District 4 voters will choose between two Democrats with similar views in Tuesday’s election but outside groups have tried to emphasize the candidates’ differences.

The San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council and the conservative Lincoln Club of San Diego County have ragged on candidates Dwayne Crenshaw and Myrtle Cole, respectively, in recent mailers.

In the latest edition of Fact Check TV, Scott Lewis took a closer look at a mailer distributed by a Labor Council political committee that insinuated Crenshaw was fired from the nonprofit Coalition of Neighborhood Councils for mismanaging cash.

This isn’t the only mailer we’ve fact-checked recently.

A few weeks back, Lewis and I vetted a Lincoln Club statement about Cole’s role in a 2005 ethics commission investigation.

Liam Dillon also spotlighted a Cole mailer that rehashed a long-discredited claim about Crenshaw’s involvement (or lack thereof) in a drug deal more than 20 years ago.
