If you live in the 79th Assembly District, you’ve got another election coming up. That’s because Shirley Weber, who represented the area for nearly a decade, was recently appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to be California’s new secretary of state.

Five candidates hoping to fill that seat will join us to debate the future of the district. We’ll get into their positions on police reform, school equity, the immediate recovery from COVID-19 and more. We’ll also take your questions.

The 79th Assembly District covers parts of southeast San Diego, Bonita, Chula Vista, La Mesa, Lemon Grove and National City.

Candidates

  • Akilah Weber
  • Leticia Munguia
  • Marco Contreras
  • Shane Parmely
  • Aeiramique Glass-Blake

The conversation will be moderated by Voice of San Diego Editor in Chief Scott Lewis. If you have questions for the candidates or are interested in participating in the live chat, join us on YouTube or Facebook. If you’d like us to send you a reminder for the event, register here.
