Let’s be honest, ballot guides are helpful when voters are in a pinch staring down the dozens of little bubbles on their ballots, but they don’t allow nearly enough room for the full complexities of local races.   

That’s why we’ve made it our mission to cut through the noise. Our 2026 voter guide will explain what’s at stake and dig into the issues.  

Candidate filing for the Nov. 3 election continues through Aug. 7. This guide will be updated, but in the meantime, you can catch up on our recent coverage of races and measures on the ballot.

Nov. 3, 2026 Gubernatorial General Election — San Diego County

  1. SEP24

    Voter Information Pamphlets start going out to registered voters.

  2. OCT5

    Ballots mailed to all active registered voters. Early voting also begins at the Registrar’s office, Mon.–Fri., 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

  3. OCT6

    Official ballot drop boxes open countywide, through Election Day.

  4. OCT19

    Last day to register online (or update your registration address) to get your ballot by mail. After this, you’ll need to conditionally register in person.

  5. OCT20

    Conditional voter registration begins — register and vote same-day at the Registrar’s office or any vote center.

  6. OCT24

    Select vote centers open early — daily, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

  7. OCT31

    All vote centers open — daily, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

  8. NOV3

    Election Day

    Vote centers and drop boxes open 7 a.m.–8 p.m. Last day to vote.
