Could it be that the attitude of Leslie Farms towards their field workers living in McGonigle Canyon parallels their land ethic? Their general manager claims the soil can’t sustain long term agricultural uses, so they have to move to a new leased property when it no longer produces. This sounds negligent – likely the result of using too many chemicals without organic replenishment. It also demonstrates short term strategy that earns a profit for the company, but provides no sustained benefit for its workers – or for its patrons and community.
