Several readers have asked me what plants I saw growing on the new slopes created by the U.S.-Mexico border fence. We wrote Monday about the federal effort to get plants growing there.

I know this much: A U.S. Customs and Border Protection contractor spread a native plant seed mix on the slopes. Some plants growing on the slopes looked grassy to me. Some had small yellow blossoms. All were green. But are they weeds? That I don’t know. I’m hoping you do. Here are two close-up photos of the hills. Do you recognize the plants?

If so, post a comment here or send me an e-mail identifying them at rob.davis@voiceofsandiego.org.
