When the city of San Diego passed stricter regulations for street vendors in 2022, it wasn’t clear that the new rules would extend beyond food vendors and craft sellers.
But now, the yogis have entered the chat.
Yoga instructors who host donation-based classes at Sunset Cliffs and other beach areas recently learned that San Diego’s vending rules apply to them too, not just hotdog vendors.
That’s because the city decided that all profitable operations in public spaces should be subject to similar rules and that some areas are not suited for permits at all.
I set out to explain the rules and what is allowed on local beaches and cliffs. View the video below.

My wife and I love Sunset Cliffs for ocean and people watching. The yoga classes are a welcome part of vibrant scene.
