We’ve followed our share of fights, but one is turning into something we’ve never seen before.
The fight over who will be the next boss of 18,000 San Diego County employees is getting dirty. From unflattering photos on social media to lawsuit threats, it’s clear that the relationship between Board of Supervisors Chair Nora Vargas and some of the region’s largest unions may be at a breaking point.
Recap: Last year, the county offered Santa Clarita Supervisor Cindy Chavez the chief administrative officer job. That was later rescinded after Nathan Fletcher resigned from the board amid a scandal. The county decided not to interview Chavez for the position and that upset labor leaders.
Now, Chavez is threatening to bring on a discrimination lawsuit.
