Vista leaders may be throwing their hats in the ring to purchase a large property in the city called Green Oak Ranch that’s also being eyed by the county and a local nonprofit.

Officials announced Tuesday that the City Council is planning to seek an appraisal of the property, which indicates they want to compete with the county and Solutions for Change, a service provider in North County.

The County Board of Supervisors announced their interest in the property last month, saying they want to use it as a mental health and substance abuse treatment center. But our Tigist Layne reported that Solutions for Change was also bidding for the property and had already been in negotiations with the real estate trust that owns Green Oak Ranch for several months.

Solutions for Change CEO Chris Megison told Voice Wednesday that they are still in conversations with the owner and negotiations have been moving in a positive direction. He believes the final agreement is imminent, he said.
