If last year was the everything is awesome speech, this year was the everything is so NOT awesome speech. This week, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria delivered his annual State of the City speech and our podcast crew unpacks what he had to say.
San Diego is facing a big budget deficit and Gloria made it clear steep cuts are coming. We pulled a few clips from the speech.
Calling them out: Gloria said it’s time for other cities, the county and one state agency to get it together 👏. He wants them to do more to address the homelessness crisis.
He didn’t call out anyone by name, but here’s what he said: “My fellow San Diegans, it is my hope that any time you see a person on the street suffering from extreme mental illness or addiction, you think of the county of San Diego and ask, ‘When will they step up to provide the services they need to end this crisis once and for all,’” he said.
No one is coming to save us. He made is clear that cuts are coming and he will expect every department to rethink and reimagine how they operate. At one point he asked why does the city have a personnel department and an HR department? Is there a better way?
We break down everything you need to know.

El idiot spent the money on DEI
After 4 years in office Todd Gloria is just now asking about the County’s responsibility to the homeless? He’s just now scratching his head over redundant City departments?
Did he think the last four years were a dress rehearsal, and the taxpayers’ funds a pile of Monopoly money? Real people have suffered and it will only get worse. Todd Gloria won’t be affected personally, but many of us will be paying for his failed decisions for years to come!
