Hot off her State of the County speech, County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer joined the podcast crew to dish on everything from global trade policy to federal spending cuts. She discussed the county’s budget challenges and what’s at stake in the race to replace former Supervisor Nora Vargas on the board.

One big thing: During her speech, Lawson-Remer announced her proposal to push a tax measure forward and change the county’s reserve policy. She told us on the show that while she does want to introduce a tax measure that would help the county protect services hurt by federal cuts, she hasn’t settled on exactly what it should look like.

She also shed some light on whether her Republican colleagues were invited to the speech. As we reported, the two Republican supes said they weren’t there because they weren’t invited. Here’s what she told us:

“I would have loved them to be there,” she said. “They told my team they weren’t interested in coming.”

Our podcast crew also went through the latest headlines and Lawson-Remer brought a fire hot take, literally.
