San Diego Unified is still legally bound to integrate its schools, but its main tool for doing that — busing — could become a victim of budget cuts.

Though the courts aren’t supervising desegregation in San Diego Unified anymore, the legal order says it should continue integration. So what happens if it doesn’t?

The school board is scheduled to hear a more detailed plan for phasing out magnet and integration busing in early June.
