Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006 | Let me see if I understand this correctly. Our esteemed City Council, in their infinite wisdom, has passed a no smoking law at the beach and all public parks. This, the same City Council that has driven the city into financial ruin, that ignores millions of gallons of raw sewage being dumped into the bay and ocean every week, has no answer as to where this sewage came from, and doesn’t tell the public, afraid of scaring away the tourists. Maybe I’ve been away too long, but aren’t the beaches and parks outside? Doesn’t the wind blow at the beach everyday? This is America, right? So, in America’s finest city beaches, you can not have a beer, you can not have a fire, you can’t have a dog, and now you can’t have a smoke. What’s next? Everyone will need to shower before being allowed on the beach. This is absurd. We are being governed by buffoons. On top of that, they want the life guards to enforce this idiotic law. I’m sorry your family member drowned but we were busy handing out no smoking tickets. This is insane.
