City Attorney Mike Aguirre will begin calling individuals from his witness list in the opening phase of the pension trial today, and the city manager responsible for drawing up the first controversial pension deal in 1996 will lead off.

Former City Manager Jack McGrory is expected to take the stand this morning. He will likely be followed by Judie Italiano, the general manager and former president of the city’s white-collar union. Several pension trustees are supposed to be called as well, but they will likely to invoke the Fifth Amendment due to their own criminal prosecutions in the matter.

Stay tuned for updates in the case.
