I’m humbled by the reader response posted by M. J. asking:

Can you tell us how we can contribute dollars of support toward the construction of the permanent regional law enforcement memorial?

That would be a great idea. The design and construction costs are estimated at about $250,000. We have about $170,000 in hand right now and soft commitments for about another $50,000. Anything and everything will help close the gap.

There are three tax deductible ways of doing that. The San Diego County Deputy Sheriffs Foundation, the San Diego County Crime Commission and the San Diego County Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation  are all recognized IRS 501(c)(3) charitable entities. A contribution made to any one of the three fits within their stated purpose and qualifies as a charity contribution deductible for income tax purposes. Each has reserved accounts for the construction of the regional law enforcement memorial and you can designate your contribution for that specific purpose. So it’s your choice if you are familiar with any of the three.

Probably the simplest way would be to email me and I’ll reply with the address, tax ID and contact information. I know the Crime Commission and Deputy Sheriffs Foundation can process credit cards, but I’m not sure about the other foundation.  Thank you for the question M.J.
