Lauire Black, a local political consultant, has been nominated by two city councilmen to fill a Port Commission post that has made waves at City Hall in recent months.
Council President Scott Peters and Councilman Jim Madaffer nominated Black, who served as chief of staff to former U.S. Rep. Lynn Schenk and as a member of various political boards, such as the city’s Library Commission and the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board. She is also a former president of the Downtown San Diego Partnership.
Black’s nomination is the second, following Councilman Brian Maienschein’s proposal to reappoint Stephen Cushman, whose second term expired this month. Peters has said he doesn’t think a commissioner should be allowed a third four-year term, although environmentalists, labor and the Chargers have backed Cushman’s reappointment.
