Mayor Jerry Sanders today apologized for comments made on the Roger Hedgecock Show yesterday, explaining that he incorrectly stated that the elimination of the controversial DROP program had been proposed during negotiations with the Police Officers Association.

“I was also advised that the good faith rules agreed to by both bargaining units prohibits public discussion or statements regarding proposals, whether accurate or not, made in the negotiations process,” Sanders said.

The police officers’ union said the violation “has caused extreme duress with the membership of the San Diego Police Officers Association and has led to the temporary suspension of further negotiations.”
