The county’s Department of Environmental Health sends out daily warnings about where not to swim. For the first time today, the report includes an interesting number: How many gallons of runoff are coming down the Tijuana River and crossing north over the border into the Tijuana Estuary daily.

Today’s answer: 46 million gallons. That’s about 920,000 average-sized bathtubs full of sewage-laden runoff.

Keep in mind that it hasn’t rained since Sunday.

That stretch of beach has been closed since Jan. 30.
