Monday, Feb. 19, 2007 | Today NW swell is building along the coast. Weather though could be an issue then. We have a combo of NW and SW due at the end of the week, but we could have some weather issues by then as well.
Right now, the California Buoy is checking in at 9 feet with 14-second periods. Closer to the coast, the Half Moon Bay buoy is at 7 feet with 14-second periods, and the Cape San Martin buoy is at 9 feet with 16-second periods.
Overall, the swell energy in the water shows NW periods averaging 14-16 seconds from 285 degrees.

In SoCal, wave heights are running chest to head high at most west facing breaks with some overhead pluses coming through at times at standouts. South facing breaks are running waist high, bigger though at dual exposure spots. Note though that the OC region is shadowed from much of this incoming swell by island blockage.
Northern California and the Central Coast are seeing sets running DOH at most west facing breaks. South facing breaks are running chest to head high from NW diffraction.

Water temperatures are up a bit in some locations, averaging 59 degrees in San Diego, 59 in Orange County, 60 in LA, 57 in Ventura County, 58 in Santa Barbara, 55 along the Central Coast, and 52 degrees in NCal.
Winds as of 8:00 this morning were light and variable most everywhere, although many spots have been seeing a slight onshore influence. Winds today will vary greatly by region due to a low coming up from the south and one diving down from the north but sitting well offshore.
