Councilman Ben Hueso has proposed at the ongoing City Council meeting to require City Attorney Mike Aguirre to seek the council’s approval before filing litigation.

Hueso wants the mid-year spending adjustments to include a restriction against allowing Aguirre free reign over the lawsuits filed on the city’s behalf. Aguirre contends that he can do so unilaterally under the city’s bylaws; several council members disagree, saying the costs incurred in court should be the discretion of the council.

Stay tuned for the result of the council’s vote.
