Wednesday, April 11, 2007 | This is a response to your editorial asking Centre City Development Corp (CCDC) to “pay up” by assuming city debts for the ballpark and convention center.
While I agree wholeheartedly with your premise, it seems that you do not understand that CCDC does not make this decision. The CCDC may recommend but the City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, makes the decision. They could have decided this long ago, but instead gave unthinking approval to any and every unnecessary project proposed for downtown. How about $25 million to remodel the Balboa Theatre? Why is that more important than our police and fire departments?
