The beaches south of Imperial Beach along the U.S.-Mexico border have been closed to swimmers and surfers since Jan. 30.
No longer. The county’s Department of Environmental Health signaled the all-clear yesterday. So play away in the surf at Border Field State Park and Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge.
The areas had been closed by the chronic sewage-tainted runoff that gets washed off Tijuana’s streets and into the Pacific Ocean with each winter rainfall. Last year, those areas were closed more than three months. We took a look at the problem in this story.
