Tuesday, July 3, 2007 | The MiraCosta College Board of Trustees is composed of seven board members. Three of those trustees, Gloria Carranza, Jackie Simon, and Judy Strattan have labored to provide a balance of power for the MiraCosta community. They have remained steadfast to the principles of fairness and open discussion of matters that affect everyone in the college district.

Trustees Carranza, Simon, and Strattan are the three trustees that have demonstrated their responsibility to analyze, before rejecting, dissenting points of view brought before the board. They are the three trustees who understand that esteem for the position of the college president/superintendent involves critical thinking in order to avoid blind support of authority.

Trustees Carranza, Simon, and Strattan have resisted the temptation to become an elite group of power brokers. When they think that a board decision is misguided or wrong, they bravely speak out, and they do so with civility. As individuals, if they think that they have erred, they admit it. Such honesty is vital to the successful functioning of the board and the college. Such honesty demonstrates the highest respect for the power accorded board members and trust in the people whom they serve.
