Sunday, July 08, 2007 | Herb Klein, as those of you my age will remember, worked for Richard Nixon as communications director. In 1973, Time Magazine published an article entitled ” So long to old Herb Klein”.  In the article it was said “he peddled the old Nixon propaganda with a straight face”.

Herb Klein retired from The San Diego Union-Tribune in 2003 at the age of 85 where, as a senior executive and editor, he continued his propaganda campaign for rich Republicans and greedy developers.

Now at the age of 89, he is still meddling in San Diego mayoral politics.

He has met with Mayor Sanders more times than most council members including Donna Frye, Ben Hueso and Tony Young. These meetings are documented in the Mayor’s appointment calendar from June 1. 2006 through May 31, 2007 that can now be accessed on Blog of San Diego. He also recently, lambasted the City Attorney, Mike Aquirre, in an opinion piece in the Union-Tribune while defending Sanders from charges of cronyism, incompetence or worse; charges that appear to be well-founded as activists dig for the facts in other city real estate deals and redevelopment projects such as the Navy Broadway Complex.

So my question to the mayor is:

Who really runs city hall, you or Herb Klein and the San Diego Union -Tribune?
