As I reported yesterday, Mayor Jerry Sanders met with the Republican Party of San Diego County’s Executive Committee.

Their conversation came one week after Sanders declared his support for same-sex marriage, which angered conservatives and led to speculation by some partisans that Sanders’ endorsement by the party is in jeopardy.

I asked Sanders this morning if the partisans discussed his endorsement at the meeting.

“Obliquely,” the mayor said.

Is Sanders worried about the party pulling its support, which would likely include the gobs of money the party can spend communicating with its members in favor of reelecting the incumbent mayor?

“No,” he said. “Not at this point.”

The party’s full Central Committee, which handles the endorsements, is slated to meet on Oct. 8.
