Mayor Jerry Sanders is holding a 1 p.m. press conference today to urge the city’s largest water users to conserve 10 percent of their water use. That’s a higher target than the mayor has called for previously.
City Attorney Mike Aguirre called earlier this week for city water users to cut their consumption by one-third. Aguirre has urged Sanders to declare a Stage 2 water alert, which would enable the city to prohibit irrigation of homes and golf courses during certain days and times, prohibit restaurants from serving water unless requested and curtail all washing of sidewalks and driveways with potable water.
Sanders has said that such measures are not yet warranted.
