Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007 | No matter what justification these opportunistic landlords may use for raising rent, it boils down to greed, which has always been a factor in our hugely inflated San Diego real estate market.

Fire victims have suffered cataclysmic losses. A decent society owes them the gift of charity, not unprincipled craftiness, disguised as economic necessity.

One has only to read a bit of history to know that excessive greed is an indication of a declining society. We can hope that the majority of us have more charity in our hearts than these high-end rental barons have shown this past week.
