Stephen Edele, director of the now-defunct Harborside School, will lead a private school on an island in the Puget Sound, according to the Vashon-Mary Island Beachcomber.

Harborside, a private school in downtown San Diego, closed this summer for financial reasons and was absorbed into Washington Elementary, a nearby public school. The merger has raised questions of equity, and whether the unusual program was implemented fairly.

Edele will soon lead the Harbor School, a 12-year-old school on Vashon-Mary Island in Washington State. The Beachcomber quotes Harborside board members, who said Edele didn’t contribute to the San Diego school’s budget problems:

The school closed abruptly when funding dried up. The fundraising portfolio at Harborside, however, was not Edele’s, according to Cindy Pollock, who chairs The Harbor School’s board. The board, she added, was satisfied after speaking with all Harborside board members, all of whom highly recommended Edele and had nothing but praise for the educator.
