Monday, Dec. 24, 2007 | In light of the recent City Council vote to impose a beach alcohol ban on all city of San Diego beaches and parks, the Ocean Beach Town Council Board of Directors feels it is appropriate to reiterate its position on such a ban.
In the call of 2006, the Board of Directors of the Ocean Beach Town Council informally polled our membership to see how they felt about a beach alcohol ban. The response was that the majority of the membership was opposed to any type of alcohol ban on the beach.
At the May 9, 2007 Board meeting the Ocean Beach Town Council Board of Directors voted unanimously to oppose any new alcohol ban on any city beach in San Diego, including Pacific Beach, Mission Beach and Ocean Beach. We expressed the position of both our membership and our Board of Directors to Councilman Faulconer in June of 2007. This position has not changed.
The Board of Directors would like to restate its opposition to any alcohol ban on any city beach in San Diego. We followed the work and efforts of the Beach Alcohol Task Force as it met over the course of nine months, and believe that there are other solutions available to the issues that were raised.
