Newspapers as far as Greensboro, North Carolina had heralded a much-awaited public meeting today, saying San Diego Unified School District would likely announce its new superintendent. The decision is being closely monitored on both coasts: In North Carolina, Guilford County Superintendent Terry Grier has already confirmed he is a candidate. The meeting’s topic was the superintendent search.

The unions were there. Top district staffers were there. The Union-Tribune was there. School board president Katherine Nakamura opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance, and announced … another public meeting.

Nakamura said the school board would go back into closed session, then convene an open meeting about the superintendent search at 1 p.m. Saturday.
