Tuesday, April 22, 2008|I am an attorney with an active civil practice in East County and San Diego. I notice you are running some articles on Judge Jan Goldsmith and I wanted to give you my impressions. First of all, I am a Democrat. Having said that, I can also say that my experiences with Judge Goldsmith have been nothing but praiseworthy.
He is as fair a trial judge as can be had. He has had a long history of politics in San Diego County and none of that — as might be expected when a politician goes on the bench — has ever interfered with his perspective that cases are to be handled fairly based on the facts and the law.
Frankly, I was very sorry to see him leave the bench. I knew that when I entered his courtroom that any decision he made was based on his reading and understanding the issues before him and applying the law as he saw it. No one who tries cases can ever ask for more than that from a judge.
