San Diego City Councilman Tony Young today endorsed Todd Gloria in the race for the District 3 council seat.

“Todd Gloria has spent his entire life serving the communities he now hopes to represent,” said Young in his news release on the endorsement.

Gloria and fellow Democrat Stephen Whitburn are vying for the seat, which represents the central San Diego neighborhoods of Hillcrest, North Park, South Park, Kensington, City Heights and University Heights.

Beyond Young, Gloria has received endorsements from Councilman Ben Hueso, Congresswoman Susan Davis and the police and firefighter unions. Whitburn has been endorsed by Councilwoman Donna Frye, Congressman Bob Filner and the San Diego Democratic Party.

Gloria finished first with 40 percent and Whitburn second with 28 percent in a crowded June primary.
