The latest tally in the city attorney’s race: $87,188 plays $16,074.
That’s how much challenger Jan Goldsmith’s campaign raised in the first two weeks of October compared to incumbent Mike Aguirre’s campaign, according to the latest set of campaign filings.
It’s the second time that Goldsmith has out-raised Aguirre by almost 6-to-1 in recent weeks. And the latest set of campaign filings show, conclusively, that Aguirre either isn’t willing to spend his own money on the campaign, or that he simply doesn’t have the money to finance this campaign the way he did his last.
Aguirre pumped more than $500,000 of his own cash into his election campaign in 2004. But records show that the incumbent has spent just $22,500 of his own money this time around. With the campaign entering its final week, Aguirre’s running out of time to dip into his wallet, if he can.
Goldsmith has out-fundraised Aguirre consistently since the runoff election campaign began. He has not put any of his own money into the race.
