So you know that old election night truism about Republican candidates always doing better in absentee voting? Fuhgeddaboutit, say two local politicos.

“To some extent that is old mythology,” said John Kern, a political consultant and former chief of staff for Mayor Dick Murphy.

Jennifer Tierney, who is consulting for Democrats Sherri Lightner and Todd Gloria, agrees.

“I used to tell my Democratic clients that if you are up in absentees it’s game over,” said Tierney. “Now it all kind of runs together.”

So Democrats Sherri Lightner and Marti Emerald should not read too much in to being up one point and down just more than two points, respectively, in Districts 1 and 7.

Both also agree that Todd Gloria’s nine point lead in District 3 is all but insurmountable. Then again, both really want Gloria to win.
