The San Diego Unified school board has unanimously appointed a National University administrator to oversee the rollout of Proposition S, the $2.1 billion facilities bond approved by voters last month.

His name is Stuart Markey, and he was identified by San Diego Unified as the director of facilities operations at National. The job is a major one: The last such leader, Lou Smith, was widely credited with rescuing the last facilities bond, Proposition MM, after early missteps and mismanagement. It is undecided when Markey will begin work.
