Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009 | San Diego Unified states the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts teacher was “almost always present” while a convicted sex offender was volunteering with students? Obviously, almost always wasn’t enough.  Why did the principal not make sure the students were adequately supervised at all times? The principal, Mitzi Lizarraga, did not bother to have a fingerprint background check. Is the safety of the students not worth $35? It’s no wonder that San Diego Unified spokesman Jack Brandais said that Lizarraga will not be making any comments. Good job by reporter Emily Alpert about getting to the specifics of the education code.
