Rachel Laing, a spokeswoman for Mayor Jerry Sanders, weighed in on the discussion that Leonard Baron prompted yesterday. The issue: Whether turning your faucet’s pressure down will help save water while brushing your teeth.

Laing suggested the answer is simple. Just buy an aerator for your spout if you don’t already have one. She wrote in an e-mail:

Why mess with the valves when you can get faucet aerators? [I]f messing with the valves causes leakage problems, aerators and faucet control (using a gentler flow) make a great alternative.

Aerators are those little screens that go on the end of your faucet.
