Thursday, July 23, 2009 | Most of the renters in multifamily dwellings in San Diego do not pay for their own water use and therefore water is free to them. The City’s Water Department charges the landlords $3,100 for an obsolete water meter, which is virtually prohibitive. The City should switch to the water meters made by the same company that is supplying electricity and gas meters to SDG&E. The price of these meters should be lower than the present ones’ and can be paid by the landlords. The billing including that directly to the tenants can be done by SDG&E. The Mayor will finally be able to outsource something, the billing. You might want to check with SDG&E on their new meters.
