Starting today, KPBS will be rolling out a weeklong radio series on the after-effects of war on San Diego’s community of active-duty and veteran residents. San Diego is home to more than 250,000 military veterans, and the county gets more Department of Defense dollars than any other in the United States.
On the way to the newsroom this morning, I caught part of an interview with Alison St John, the project’s editor. It’ll cover issues of post-traumatic stress, housing, homelessness, and the resources the city and county provide veterans trying to find normalcy in the aftermath of our two recent wars. It promises to be an important series.
