Remember our friends over at the Media Arts Center? A few months ago we started showcasing some of the videos that the center’s filmmakers had created to accompany our coverage.
We haven’t brought you any in a while, but they’ve been at work cranking out dozens more. They’ve been hitting the streets and talking to San Diego residents, recording the personal stories that highlight San Diego’s rich diversity. I’ll be highlighting them here in the months to come, and expanding on some of them in my reporting.
Here’s a great one with Yasmin Hamud, a Somali immigrant who started the Center for Bridging Communities. Her organization works with local Somali immigrant youth, especially girls, to smooth their transition to life in San Diego and help prepare them for college.
We’re working closely with the Media Arts Center to keep telling people’s stories. Is there someone whose experiences you think their filmmakers should document? Let me know by sending me an e-mail at adrian.florido@voiceofsandiego.org
