The Issue

As SDSU’s research reputation rises, some SDSU researchers have chosen the school over powerhouse UCSD because of the school’s close-knit environment and emphasis on teaching.

Why It’s Happening

The school’s increased research funding and growing emphasis on research allows researchers to produce significant scientific work without feeling like they’re sacrificing their careers or the quality of their research.

The Trade-off

The school is still struggling to ditch its reputation as just another Cal State school and its students and professors will still have to deal with scientific snobbery.
