The Escondido Children’s Museum is changing its name to the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum, I heard this afternoon.
The museum said it hopes the name change communicates the institution is open for visitors from not just Escondido, but the surrounding region in San Diego and Riverside counties. It also hopes to communicate “its focus on science and world cultures.”
The new name made me wonder if wee museum-goers (and their parents/chauffeurs) will get confused between the Escondido spot and the arts-focused New Children’s Museum in downtown San Diego. (I did a Q&A with that museum’s director in 2007.)
Not to mention there used to be a “Children’s Discovery Museum of North County” — not this one — that closed in 2006. That one was in Carlsbad.
