We asked food writer Susan Russo to create sandwiches in honor of several San Diego neighborhoods. Here’s what she came up with.

The Hillcrest: Grilled Gruyère with artisanal bacon jam on toasted rye

The La Jolla: Creamy crab salad with avocado, grapefruit and pea shoots on toasted multi-grain

The Ocean Beach: Fried whitefish with fresh mango salsa and cilantro mayo on a Kaiser roll

The Downtown: Slow roasted pork with pickled cabbage, spicy ale mustard and crispy fried onions

The North Park: Roast pork loin with fig jam and balsamic tossed wild arugula on ciabatta
