A few weeks ago I took a trip to La Mesa with a group of urban gleaners, volunteers who pick unwanted fruit and donate it to local food pantries. It’s a growing trend in San Diego, where advocates have found a way to ensure that fruit that would otherwise spoil can instead stock needy kitchens. If you missed it, you can read the story and see more photos.
I was joined by videographer Brian Myers from our partner, the Media Arts Center. He was able to pry the volunteers away from their work picking oranges long enough to put together this video piece.
